We Were Totally Unprepared For This.
Alright... I've run ahead of the story a bit. Well... I started somewhere in the middle anyway so I think I should give a little refresher about what led us here...
Commitment ...
Before we sold our house and moved it's possessions to Canada we had, what we thought, was a solid commitment from the Old Lady that She was moving back to Canada. She was one the major influences for our immediate decision. We really weren't ready. We hadn't filed our paperwork yet. And. Our careers were still going strong. If it wasn't for the unbelievably favorable real estate market we certainly would have waited.
Medical condition ...
Beryl was, as her medical support called it, in the 'final' stage of Ovarian Cancer. And She was over eighty years old. It was a perfect time for her to travel to Her place of her birth. Something She led everyone to believe was what She wanted. 'All' her friends believed it and so did we. It was a Major influence in our decision to migrate ahead of schedule.
Treatment ...
The entire time we were here we were treated like it was our fault. Our fault the house was run down, Our fault Her friends stopped coming by, stopped calling. Our fault She was 85 and dying. No matter how hard we tried. Begging Her friends. Offering to pay for their visits. Beryl was abandoned. By everyone but us. And of course that was all our fault. I have had some very uncomfortable situations in my life but nothing can compare to this. At the end Shauna's mother would look away every time Shauna entered her mother's room. Oh My... This is truly a despicable Old Lady.
